The Seventh Son is an upcoming fantasy film based on the first installment in Joseph Delaney's children's dark fantasy novel series The Wardstone Chronicles titled The Spook's Apprentice.
The story centres around 14-year-old Tom Ward, a seventh son of a
seventh son, and his adventures as the apprentice of the Spook. It stars
Ben Barnes, Jeff Bridges, and Julianne Moore. It features music composed by A.R. Rahman and Tuomas Kantelinen. It is scheduled to be released in 3-D and IMAX 3D on 18 October 2013.
In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.
Production began on 19 March 2012 in Vancouver, Canada.[6] In February 2013, Legendary Pictures agreed to give $5 million to recently bankrupt visual effects house Rhythm and Hues Studios so they would complete their work in The Seventh Son.
Plot
In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. John Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a Spook, a person who fights against the Dark, who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Production
The film originally featured Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore[4] as the Spook and Mother Malkin. Sam Claflin and Alicia Vikander were cast as Tom Ward and Alice,[5] but in June 2011, Variety broke out that Claflin had bowed out for reasons unknown and Ben Barnes was cast in his stead.Production began on 19 March 2012 in Vancouver, Canada.[6] In February 2013, Legendary Pictures agreed to give $5 million to recently bankrupt visual effects house Rhythm and Hues Studios so they would complete their work in The Seventh Son.
